Throw back Thursday

Fashion, a Universal Language

Today is Throw back Thursday and I will like to share with you one of the projects that I have most enjoy doing.  Last year I participated in a contest to win a scholarship to do a Fashion communication and Styling Master in Milan.   I had to do a styling project with the theme “Design for all”
I didn't won, but I had so much fun doing this project I don’t regret any second.

    Hope you enjoy it.

Fashion is a form of expression; beyond the esthetics it reflects our cultural
identity, who we are and where we come from. If fashion welcomes us all without discrimination of color, religion, social status, age, sex, nationality; then why do we reject each other? In fashion the real value is in the difference.
For many reasons sometimes we try to ignore the reality we are living in.
Dominican Republic and Haiti, two countries culturally different, that historically have been dragging a conflict between each other, but there is something inseparable between the two, they share the same island even the same color of the flag.
Why can't fashion be the common language between these two nations?
The propose of this project is to create a socially conscious style to include
Haitian women in fashion. A woman who struggles quietly behind the misery with the hope of building a better life for her family.
This is why I propose a accessible styling for them, inspired by their culture
with pieces that they use in their daily lives, giving them an option on how to use them that would compliment their style, with out taking away its essence.
Elements like turbans and hats that they used to cover from the sun, long skirts made with second hand materials like scrap of fabric, wooden accessories, second hand clothes, earrings made with fabric scraps. Common outfits could start being fashionable.
This project seeks to raise awareness; every woman has the right to dress
well, regardless of the work we do. From the dignified woman who sells coffee in the construction that her husband works, to the one that works in an office can be fashionable.
Fashion is an art and its beauty is like nature, it lies in the mixture of different elements, textures, colors and materials so, completely different people can give their own label.

Fashion is a universal language in which all colors come together to create beautiful pieces.
